I've just tried a blu-ray movie on a commercial disc and it plays on PowerDVD DX without any problems. My guess is that there are many BD formats and not all are supported by the Dell pre-installed application. PowerDVD update section apparently makes it clear that update patches are meant to respond to the "newest BD formats". But probably you are right. It's the commercial version that will always be ahead of the OEM variants that are offered to computer retailers.
As for the Dell Support, it's been a long story for me and other ST1747 users. I've been waiting for a new 130 W PS which would not overheat, for a next BIOS update that would stop the throtling of the system, for an ATI driver update that would prevent crashes and lock-ups, and so on.
I've just received the answer from the PowerdDVD support concerning BD5, BD9 and AVCHD discs:
"(...) I would like to inform you that OEM version softwares are customized version by the hardware manufacturers like DELL etc. You have received the special customized version of the CyberLink software which is shipped with DELL products only.
Since, we do not have much information about the features and internal architecture of the software therefore, I suggest you to contact DELL for further help with this software. (...)"
Another bullseye! I had the same problem with my BD software from Dell and downloaded the patch you mentioned in your post and had the same successful results. The main difference is that I use Windows Vista (64 bit) instead of 7. Well done! Keep up the good work.
This is a relatively old comment from a very old thread. I use the same version of PowerDVD DX and, for quite some time, have had no problems playing any videos. To answer your last question, it was never a big deal in any way. For an unidentified reason, my particular software did not play any BDs I tried until I downloaded the file mentioned in the discussion to which you are referring.
Lee, do you work for Dell or are you doing personal research on this well-documented issue. I'd be happy to provide links to the sites I used to fix the issue that was affecting me. Please be aware, you could save a lot of time and hassle if you read the entire discussion. Please let me know if you need any more help.
Admittedly, I did not fully read every post, I skimmed over looking for the answer. If you say the solution is in the thread, I will read fully, But if you do have links to fixes, I would Greatly appreciate them. I have had no success fixing this issue. I have been able to play blu ray discs with the latest cyberlink powerdvd only.
I tried downloading the older powerdvd in the link above, yes it downloaded the latest dell powerdvd 8.3.1.6701 or something.
Powerdvd installed ok, I started it and like EVERY OTHER install, no disc will play, as soon as I go to blu ray settings, powerdvd DX just closes.
I restart power dvd and try again. and then when I click on or select blu ray settings, nothing happens.
I have updated my firmware, it is the latest, I have updated video drivers, I have uninstalled in safe mode, re-installed a celan version for each method, NOTHING seems to work, I created a new admin user to install and still not working.
I have Power DVD DX, most Blu Ray discs do play, but I just ordered Green zone from netflix and this is the second one that will not play. I got the analog VGA output error code. I think I will order it on the DVD format next time, and if this problem begins occuring more, then I will just quit ordering Blu Ray. Seems they keep changing the format because I had this problem before with DVD 7 and Dell gave me an upgrade to 8.
Studio xps 8100, Intel i5-760, 8GB ram, plds DVDRWBD DH-6E2S drive, Radeon 5450 1GB video card, Dell ST2310 HD monitor. All drivers are up to date. I have sucessfully followed the link from the previous page. Cyberlink DVD DX 8.3.1.6107 was the original package as was the link to the update. So no change. I saw the screen shot of the Cyberlink DVD DX 8.3.5.5424 and wonder if this is a update and a fully workable version for the Dell interface. Blue ray will load and get to start menu. I am unable to navigate to change settings, choose scenes or any other main menu features. I am able to click on the play icon and it says "play" in the upper right corner but continues to stay on menu screen. Eventually, the movie starts to play but I believe that it starts by default after 5+ minutes pass. I'm extremely disappointed as I have owned a Dell before and think this flaw is more than a nuisance. Any feedback as how to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated. It seems that the customers know more about Dell than Dell.
I have the NEW Zino 410 loaded. I am getting the same error message. Also getting error 0110, says switch to analog. Their tech support up dated all my drivers.. Dell is blaming my tv, which is a brand NEW Vizio. Tested a bluray player on the Vizio and it worked fine. Dell sells the same TV. Does Dell look at any of these posts. Their tech support is much to be desired. Seems they like to pass the buck. I have a follow up call with them on Tuesday to see if I solved the problem with the TV. It seems to me it is the DVD DX software. They do not want to admit that Cyberpoop is not working. I hope they will up grade it or replace it with something that works.
Please go to the postings for Feb & Mar of this year. The downloads and patch updateswere quick, accurate and 100% effective. I was told an hour ago to pay $239 for software support on a brand new system that had no software for the Blu-Ray player working. I refused, and found the answer in about 30 minutes. Downloading and uopdateing as recommended solved the issue. Dell needs to get a handle on consumer response. It cost them this time, and will certainly the next. Take Care,

How were you able to get it to work.?
I am running PowerDVD DX ver 8.3.1.6107
Win7 64 home premium.
Why is this such a big deal. Cyberlink versions play the Blu Ray discs just fine.

I have had my Zino HD system for a month now and have yet to get it to play a Blu-ray disc. My current system looks like this...
I have updated the bios, the firmware on the Blu-ray drive, and have uninstalled and reinstalled the original PowerDVD software per Dell Support.
I still have the same problem reading the disc..
The disc is not damaged and graphics driver is up to date.

Hi Edjoyner,
Please post the model of your drive. Have you updated PowerDVD since you got your system? What is your display device, i.e., HDTV, HD monitor, etc.?
