CD-ROM won't read a CD-RW disc, only reads CD-R's

Question

Brand new Dimension 4600C. My CD-ROM won't read a CD-RW disc, it only reads CD-R's. Is this normal? I've used other cd-rom drives that read cd-rw's. The disc was written and closed properly. Please help. Chris Valente

Chris: It would not be 'normal' in a post 1998 ROM drive. The date is approximant, but if the drive carries the Multi-Media logo on it, it should read a RW. It would be helpful to place the media in a writer that can read it and use Explorer to view its' Properties. In particular the File System that is on the media.

The file system says CDFS. The disk definitely worked in my coworker's slightly older 4400, and his only has a CD-ROM also.
