BIOS upgrade on Inspiron 1525 under Ubuntu 9.10

You can not upgrade the bios though Ubuntu the software for this is a .exe which only executes in windows sorry man if you can duel boot than that is the only way

no, I can't dual boot - I totally dumped Windows. So I would need a bootable USB-Stick to bring me into a DOS environment and then execute the program from there, right? Any hints how to do this?

I know  that you can download a bootable  dos cd image and burn it to a CD  and boot into dos with that but do you still have a floppy drive?  if not look into this page has some help here I think if you format the USB drive to fat dos might see it.

Here is the link for the dos image below......download 6.22.   You also got to make sure you can boot from the cd first this is within your bios  under boot order or something like that. when you first boot up your system look for something like this " press this key to enter setup" this can be either delete,  or one of the function keys like F2 etc. once this is set pop in the cd and restart.

I would use the burning program in Ubuntu to burn it, I used K3B in the past but that is not installed on Ubuntu by default

You can even do it with a gui, and much more simple than that.

firmware-addon-dell

firmware-tools-gui
