Broken screen - what can I do?

I have had my streak for 2 weeks, and the screen has stopped working. the glass at the front is perfect, but it looks like something behind the glass has broken.

I bought it from an o2 shop.

where can I get it repaired, and is it a warranty repair?

Thanks

User beware, dell stream is very thin which is good, when you load or unloiad the back cover make sure lay it flat and push  instead of held by two hands at sides, this is from mechenical view advice.

@Bouda

Thanks for the detail of your adventure which resemble mine. This lack of communication is unacceptable. Yesterday I sent a complaint via email to

the General Manager of DELL FRANCE. I will see if he respond.

Regards

@19apple :

Yes, it came back.  It took exactly 3 loooong weeks.  I had NO word it was coming.  UPS showed up at my door one day.

It was repaired (it"s not a new one : same service tag) but I got a "new" version of android ; still 1.6 but an older bild !! (3889 instead of 6267 I think)

Dell was correct in that they did not charge anything (I was still not sure).  But what a mess between customer service in Marocco (knew nothing and didn't give a sh.t) and the repair shop in Hungary, with nobody to talk to in France (I had to write to AbyB on this forum !!)

"The Phone House", the French outfit who sold me the Sreak that I first used for a full week (!): did not give me any official answer to my complaint but the shop manager gave me a free Dell cover skin (30€) for all this mess.

I am now scared ; what will happen if my Streak gets ill again ?  The doctor is still at school, and the hospital is miles away and they both have no phone.

Hope your story ends well like mine   I wish you luck.  Seems it's needed.

I'm in the same situation in the US.  I had the new phone (and thought is was amazing) and then I dropped it from counter-top height onto a hard floor.  1/4 of the screen has spider-web cracks.

I take full ownership in the fact that I dropped it--however, Dell provides sabsolutely no support for this phone--no spare parts and no repair service.

I have the official AT&T insurance, but the Streak also isn't supported by the insurance.  The insurance company was originally going to give me a Blackberry Torch.  After requesting that my Android device be replaced by another Android device, the insurance company is providing me with a Samsung Galaxy S as a replacement--for a $150 deductable.  What's the use of $80 insurance if I have to spend another $150 dollars.  I could buy a new phone for that if I hadn't just extended my contract to get the Streak...

In all, the phone looks and works great (at least for me--before I dropped it, that is...), but I think it's scandalous that this phone has no visible support under it, either by Dell order support, Dell technical support, Dell Mobility, AT&T, or the AT&T insurance group.  I won't even go into the details of how many people I talked to at Dell before I found someone who even knew what the device was ("Is it a laptop?").

My experience has been absolutely unbelievably frustrating.  Now I have to decide if my Streak is going to be used as a paperweight or a coaster.  Of course, I'll have to be careful not to cut myself on the tiny loose shards of gorrilla glass...

My dell streak screen does not respond anymore with no reason by itself while everything else works fine. When someone called me, it still appears but I can not press answer. And moreover, I could not unlock the screen by drawing pattern to use it anymore. Please help

Hi
My Streak lcd broke whilst it was in its holder on the dasboard of my car. Dell sent it away for repair on the 9-9-2010 and said it would take 8 to 10 business days to get back.

After 10 business days I rang dell to be told it would take 10 to 12 business days, guess what  tonight, after 12 business days I rang Dell once again and was told it would take upto 14 business days.

I asked to speak to some one who could tell me where my phone was and what was going on with all the lies I was being told by Dell, ie: 8 to 10, 10 to 12, upto 14 business days only to be told my streak was still in Hungary at the "Depot" as dell put it.

I asked how it was going to get back here by Wednesday as this was the 14 days I had just been informed about only to be told it was 14 days after it reached the " Depot". I asked if she meant Hungary and she said yes.

So this is now 4 different terms I have been given by Dell and I am getting fed up of being fobbed off by what is supposed to be a reliable company
Can anybody give me the email address of someone in charge at Dell so I can get a straight answer and maybe get something sorted.
       Regards

Hi
I forgot to add I have been on BBC Watchdog web site and explained to them what was going on. If enough people register the problems they are having with Dell on the Watchdog web site maybe they will look into it.

Hi
But thats really not good enough for a company like Dell ( or any other company really ).
If they state a time a repair will take ( and its a common fault so they should have plenty of spares and practice at replacing LCD screens ) and they can't honour that time then they should offer a replacement.
I rang Dell again ( after 3 weeks ) to find out why my Streak hadn't appeared and a delivery date when I might expect it  and was told it will be with me when its repaired, I asked how much longer and they still said they don't know how long it will be only when its repaired.
If you were told it would be 7 to 10 days I would ring Dell and ask where the phone actually is, as it takes 7 days to get from Hungary to the UK. If they say its left Hungary ask them for the tracking number as they first told me it was on its way ( 2 weeks ago )until I insisted they must be able to give me a tracking number.

My streak came back from hungary a week ago (was sent for repair because it was struck at DELL logo).....took 15 days for them to send back. When I opened the box, i noticed the battery cover was missing !!! impossible to power it on....I took a back cover from a person who has a streak too to test. I then noticed that they replace the french firmware with an O2 firmware !! what a pitty.....I found myself with a unusable streak after waiting 15 days ! sent an email to tell them I wanted a replacement. They agreed and since then (about 8 days) I m waiting for the replacement unit to be shipped (the faulty unit was picked up by UPS).

This is my first experience with Dell support and let me tell you that the service department is really really bad......I never experienced such problems or delays with other brands such as HTC or Nokia.

With regards the screen problems. Dell in its infinite wisdom bonded the LCD to the gorilla glass, so when you handle your streak and touch the screen and equal amount of stress and pressure is transferred to the LCD beneath. As you all know, LCD's do not cope well with pressure or mechanical forces of any kind. This is a major design flaw.

If you run your fingers along the top and bottom edge of the screen you will notice that it has not been seated correctly but is twisted. This is a problem with all existing Streaks in production.

So next time your display fails remember this thread and use it to get your Streak repaired or replaced at no charge.  I have alerted Dell to this problem and a number of other Design flaws.

Currently the Dell Streak is only worthy of a concept device status. It has to many flaws to be an end product. But with the reaction everyone has had from Dell regarding their existing  problems it might be easier to learn to walk on water than to expect a recall.. But don't give up,  I have it on good authority that walking on water has been done before so a recall may still be possible if enough people complain.

Ok, I've got a Dell Streak - and love it- and mine's had a cracked screen and replacement etc. What other design flaws are there (apart from the screen)? I agree, the screen is stupid as it ripples very well and too easily if you touch the screen around the edges. Would there ever be a recall? Thanks, Ryan. :emotion-1:

It's highly unlikely that Dell would do a recall for the screens because I've yet to see any acknowledgement from them that there is a problem. And from what I've read here and in other forums Dell is inconsistent about whether the screens are even covered by their warranty.

A guy on the Dell Streak facebook page posted a link to a Streak repair place. http://www.rwsnextg.co.uk/dell-streak-repair.php

Looks like it is in the UK, but still if they are getting replacement screens there must be someone making and selling them.
