Inspiron 531 - no video output?

I've turned it on several times today, and each time the monitor doesn't seem to fire up - as though a signal is not being output from the base unit.

I have checked the monitor DVI connection and also tried with the analogue adaptor, bit with no success unfortunately....  I'm using a Dell 1908WFP panel, which works fine when connected to my laptop, so it seems the problem is perhaps with the graphics card?

Can anyone offer any tips to properly diagnose the fault?

Cheers, Jason

Open the case, then remove and reinstall the PCI x16 video card and see if this makes a difference.

No difference, either try installing a new video card, or use the integrated graphics.

Forgot to add some spec info...

It's running the 256mb NVidia GeForce 8600GT video card

I'm baffled!!

I have the same problem.  After powering on, the CPU fan runs, but there is no video output from the onboard video or the PCI video card.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Really should start a new thread as this one is 2 yrs old. Have you tried the advice given in this thread? What is the color and condition of our power button light? Do you hear any beeps?

Which version of the 531 do you have the Mini tower or small form factor.

From the info you give it sounds like the video card. but we need more info to help further

I went down the new graphics card route - the old one had failed...  Rather unfortunate, but the only solution really.  It's cheap enough to get a comparable (or better) card though, and easy to replace
