Network Printer is offline after reboot

I have an HP printer shared via an ASUS RT-N16 router.  I have 5 PCs (all Dells) accessing this printer:

1 Windows XP laptop (wireless),  2 Windows XP desktops (wired), 1 Windows 7 64 bit laptop (wireless), and 1 Windows 7 desktop (wired).

No problems on any PC except the Windows 7 desktop which is a new Dell Studio Desktop (540).  When I install the HP driver and configure the TCP/IP port, it prints OK until the PC is rebooted.  After reboot, the printer is "offline".  If I delete and re-add the printer its ok until the next reboot.  The port is configured the same way on all PC as documented in the ASUS manual : IP is router (192.168.1.1), LPR, QueueName=LPRServer.

Please help!

OK, this did not help, but....

I was about to give up but then I tried the following:

- Added the LPR Port Monitor (Control Panel->Programs and Features->Turn Windows Features on or off->Print and Document Services)
- Checked printer...it was still offline
- Removed the LPR Port Monitor
- Checked printer...it was online!
- After reboot it was still online!

DoctorX,

Not really sure about printer sharing and Windows 7 settings. Try this article and see if it helps.

Share Files and Printers between Windows 7 and XP

This works both ways.

Thanks, Rick, but the link provided in your response assumes that the printer will be connected directly to one of the PCs.  My printer is connected via USB directly to the router.  The router's IP is 192.168.1.1 so each PC has a TCP/IP port setup with this IP.

4 out of 5 PCs are OK, so the problem is not the router or printer.  The TCP/IP ports on each PC were set up with identical settings.  It's also not a Windows 7 issue per say since one of my laptops is Windsows 7 64-bit as well and it does not have this "offline issue".  It seems to be something specific to the Dell Studio 540 that causes it to think the printer is offline after a reboot.  I'm starting to suspect McAfee, although disabling it did not help.  I'm considering removing McAfee to see if this helps.

Any other suggestions? Anyone?

DoctorX,

Try this and see if it helps.

Allowing Printer past McAfee

1. Open the McAfee Security Center and then click on the ‘Internet and Network’

2. To the right of ‘Internet and Network’ you would see all the services that are present under it, just below that you would have a button ‘Configure’ please click on that.

3. Now you would have the Internet and Network Configuration, in this window you would have an option ‘Firewall Protection in Enabled’ to the right of that you would have a downward arrow, click on that.

4. Then click on the ‘Advanced’ button which would have a new screen up.

5. To the left of that window you would have ‘System Services’ click on it and to the right pane of the window you would have the ports listed.

6. Please check the option which is for ‘Windows File Sharing’ then click on ‘Apply’ and then ‘Ok’

7. Restart the computer

Canon Pixma MG 2522 is a wireless printer, that helps you to print from any device without USB cable. However, sometimes when we try to print any important document from our PC it says" Canon MG 2522 printer offline". Its a headache for the user to resolve this offline printer error in windows 10 computer.

There are two common reasons why your canon Pixma MG 2522 printer says offline in windows 10. Firstly, a loose connection between wireless devices like printer and router. Secondly, Canon Pixma MG 2522 printer drivers corrupted due to infection.

Best ways to change Canon MG 2522 Printer Offline to Online

Step 1: Check the Canon Pixma MG 2522 Printer is turned ON and there are no Errors on screen.

  • If the Canon Printer LCD Screen is blank, the printer may not be powered on.
  • If it is in sleep mode wake it up.
  • Still, it's off, then check the power cable.
  • Now check the LCD screen for any Error message. If the screen shows an error message, then troubleshoot the error to clear the issue indicated.

Step 2: Make sure Canon MG 2522 Printer is connected to the computer with USB or WiFi.

  • In case of a USB cable connection, make sure the cable connected to both ends (printer and computer).
  • Try connecting the Canon Pixma MG 2522 printer directly to the computer USB port and not via a USB hub connector.
  • If the connection is via an ethernet cable, make sure the cable is connected to both ends (printer and router).
  • Now Print the network configuration page from the printer to confirm the right IP address of the printer.
  • If using a wireless or WiFi connection, then make sure the printer is connected to the router.
  • Print the network configuration page to check the IP address of the Brother printer.

If the issue continues, go to Step 3.

Step 3: Set Canon Pixma MG 2522 as a default printer (Windows 10).

  1. Open the Settings or Control Panel.
  2. Click on > Devices and Printers.
  3. Right-click the icon for your Canon Pixma MG 2522 printer and select Set as default printer.

Step 4: Delete all the pending documents from the print queue.

  1. Right-click on the icon of the Canon MG-2522 printer.
  2. Click on > See what's printing
  3. Now Select > Printer option from window
  4. Select > Cancel All Documents.

Step 5: Check Canon Printer status in Devices and Printers windows.

  1. If the Canon Pixma MG-2522 printer status is Offline. Right-click the icon for your printer > See what's printing Printer > Use Printer Offline (removes the checkmark).
  2. If the printer status says Paused. Right-click the icon for your printer > See what's printing > Printer > Pause Printing (removes the checkmark).

Step 6: Make sure there is no copy of the Canon Pixma MG 2522 Printer icon.

  1.  If you see any copy of the Canon MG-2522 printer then delete it from the list.
  2. Uninstall the printer from the control panel.
  3. Download the latest drivers for Canon Printer.
  4. Install the Printer again.
