Dell 1555, dpc latency pops - gone in Linux

Hi

Just to say the problem with dpc latency spikes is gone in Linux,- I basically installed Ubuntu studio and am running my windows software via Wine.

I would like to know however if there is going to be an update to fix this in Windows however,- I've noticed that all the threads I've found on it here and on other forums seem to have fizzled out,- but surely if it works perfectly in Linux (and Mac OSX apparently) then this is fixable in software?

Kind regards

Hello Dave,

I guess you have read the 1737 DPC latency thread. Someone in that thread mentioned in October that Ubuntu fixes the issue (thanks for confirming that), and also that "hackintosh" operating systems work too because they do not have DPC which is strictly a Windows thing.

The person who kept saying that Dell would be fixing the issue in a BIOS update was our old liaison, Bill B. Bill has since left the boards and his replacements have been keeping a low profile to put it mildly. If I were you I would discount any possibility that Dell will fix the issue. They have moved on imo and everyone should take the hint and move on too. That is my opinion. Try posting in the 1737 thread to see what they think. Although it is mainly about that model the 1555 was mentioned a few times too.

ok,

returned it today and have bought a macbook pro. Shame really, 'cos other than this issue the Dell was a nice laptop.

Kind regards

To be honest I don't think Dell has ever put much effort into audio and none of their models is really the best choice for serious audio creation. Hope the mac is a better choice.

I'm also in this exact situation... I'll be running Ubuntu until the audio on the windows side is fixed I guess : /
