What operating system are you using?

What burning software is installed?

Please describe how a blank DVD is not being recognized.

What you are seeing is normal because Windows XP has no DVD burning capability,
thus it cannot recognize a blank DVD.  A blank DVD on XP can only be recognized
through the use of a third-party software; such as Sonic.

hmm - i put a cd in with music mp3 files and brought up sonic and when I click on drives it says "no recorder".

Then I brought up my creative media player and chose "play from my computer" then chose "all files" and when I select the "D" drive files menu is blank.

Put the same cd in my work computer latitude d630 and I can go to windows explorer and select the "D" drive and it lists all the mp3's.

Are you sure they isn't some problem with my desktop drive?

Appreciate any help you can give.  Been working on this for 2 weeks

In your first post, you said the drive would not read a blank DVD.
The reason for that is what I posted.

Now you are saying something different?  Is the problem that the
drive will not read CDs?   Things are getting confused.
