For security purposes, I recommend KillDisk. It can be run from a bootable CD or flash drive. Or you could simply disassemble the drive and put it in the trash.
I would not consider your E521 at the end of its useful life for some people. For systems I retire, I usually put a used drive in it and load XP and drivers and contact a local organization, such as the Salvation Army or Goodwill.
