Computer won't POST

Question

I'm running a very old machine as my back-up computer.  It's a poweredge 400sc.  Yea, it's really old, but useful for making party invitations, or for the kid to play on the internet. I recently received the BSOD with the message 'unmountable_boot_volume'.  A quick google search suggested repairing the installation.  I set the bios to boot from the CD, but it is not booting from the CD.  I went into the BIOS again and did some tweaking with boot sequence, and drive sequence, and now I get the message 'diskette drive 0 seek failure'.   I already disabled the 'floppy' option. No matter what I do I cannot get the machine to boot from the CD.  Please help!! Thanks!   Eddie

p.s.  I turned 'off' the hard drive in the BIOS and when I boot I get the message 'strike f1 to retry boot, f2 for setup utility'.  Still not booting from the CD, and no BSOD.
