when you remove the battery supposedly it will have 5 lights and a button to push on. push the button and if you get lights on the first, third and fifth light, your battery is busted. if you don't get a light on, try to power on the system with your ac adapter but don't put back the battery in. if it does not turn on, there's a problem with your ac. if it does, try putting back the battery while the computer is off and put the ac also. then press f2 upon bootup to go to BIOS. go to page 5 of the BIOS and check if the battery status is charging. if it says anything but not "charging", you need to buy a battery.
Thanks a lot for helping! I only get the first, third and fifth lights on the battery. And am already bought three years global insurance when I purchased this laptop. So what I can do next step? Call service? thanks
Unfortunately, it looks like your battery will need to be replaced. If your battery is less than a year old, we can have that replaced for you; if not, you can purchase one from our Spare Parts department at 1-800-372-3355 or you may go to

Thank you for using Dell's Community Forum.
Remove the battery and press the button found on its bottom and see how many lights light up.
