Hi Tonybin brissy,
Sure sounds to me that your drive has failed and needs to be replaced. My suggestion would be to contact Dell about a replacement drive.

Perhaps his power and/or signal cable has simply come loose

Open the My Computer icon on your windows desktop. Right click the DVD drive, is there an option to EJECT? If yes, click it. What happens?
