Power Connect 5524 - Port Mirroring
Recently we ordered a Dell Powerconnect 5524 and I had the intention of setting up this switch with some mirrored port. After I have added 4 ports to the mirror I get the following message.
"Too many monitoring sessions.."
I have read in another articale, that they were able to add more than 4 port to a mirror but only after they updated the firmware. I was hopping that doing the same might fix said issue. How ever after the update I still run into the same issue. So am I just stuck with only being able to Mirror 4 ports on the 5524 or is there a way to fix this to use more than 4 ports?

Making sure the firmware is up to date is a great first step.
Looking at the owners manual, page 411, informs us that up to eight source ports can be mirrored.

From my understanding though, If you have a port set to copy both Tx and Rx traffic, that would count as two, and not one. So in the end you are limited to 4 Rx/Tx port mirrors or 8 Rx or 8 Tx mirrors.
You can test this out by checking the ports that are already set as mirror, and if they are set to both Tx/Rx, try changing it to just one of those, and then see if it lets you create a new mirror session.

Thanks for the help.
I have attempted to do as you suggest and set the ports to a single Transmission Type (Tx or Rx) I have a total of 6 possible connections to the switch that could be used to mirror.
My first attempt was to set Ports 19 thru 24 as my mirrored ports. After receiving your info from above, I attempted to set the 1x port as a Rx port (port 19). Then the other 5 ports to just Tx. (Ports 20,21,22,23,24). However if I try to add more than 4 ports to the mirror I get the the same error as before.
I have been attempting to find out if this might be a security feature or perhaps just something that I am not doing correct but, as of now I have had no luck. Is it possible that the 5548 supports this function, due to having double the ports, and it is not functional with more than 4 ports on the 5524?

I am actively doing some research on this, could you run the following command for me.
show ports monitor
and paste the output to see.
Also, how are these ports setup as far as source and destination ports?

Great, thanks for the info.
So I think I see what is going on here.
Normal operation would be to take 1 source port to 1 destination port. This would equal 1 port mirror session.
When you take multiple port sources, and point them all to the same destination port, the max you can have is 4 source ports to 1 destination port.
So I believe to get more source ports, you will need to make more destination ports.
Let us know if this works.
