processor fan test

Ran diagnostics (F12 boot) on a new XPS 13.  "Processor fan" test failed. Re-did the day after, and all is OK. Should I worry? Has anyone else had this problem?

Please try to run the diagnostics once again and let me know if you get the same fan error. As you are getting error while flashing BIOS on XPS 13 and machine has been launched recently  we didn’t come across this error request you to take the screenshot and send it across to me in rich format so that I can research on that error and get back to you.

Providing you the link to download BIOS and flash it. Request you to try once and get back to me.

My BIOS is version A04, dated 4/9/2012. The one suggested by your link is version A04, dated 4/30/2012. Yet when I proceed to flash (no error this time), it warns that I am about to flash the same version and Dell does not recommend doing so. Should I proceed anyway?

The screen shot of the previous error (which may now be useless) appears below. Thanks.

BIOS flashed ok. Re-did diagnostics and problem persists. Now an alarm sounded and returned the following message:

Error code 2000-0511

Validation 93292

Msg: Fan - The (processor fan) fan failed to respond correctly.

Hi emagar,

Welcome to the Community.

To send a direct message you would need to add me as a friend and you get an option to send me a direct message with regards to service tag

The error message that you received: The (processor fan) fan failed to respond correctly is related to hardware of the computer and we might have to replace the hardware for the same.

Please respond in case you need any further assistance or clarification.

I am having the same problem. What is the actual cost of replacing fan ? I am out of warranty.

If you replace it yourself, the fan will run about $30.  If you have a shop do it, add another $75-100 or so for labor.

Dell charges a flat $199 for repairs other than a mainboard or screen.
