Inspiron 1501 Setup halt - Press f2 twice...press f12

Any suggestions on how to stop setup halting when I power on - it waits for me to press any key to continue, press f2... press f12 - I just want it to load windows directly - can't find anything editable to change it.  Phoenix Bios 2.3.0. Thank you.

Hi Prutero,

Welcome to the Community,

Once system boots to Windows,if its Windows 7 or Windows Vista, click on start menu, right click on Computer, click properties,Click Advanced System Properties,Start up and Recovery,Click settings,Uncheck both time to display list of Operating system and time to display recovery options when needed.

If its Windows XP click on start menu, right click on Computer, click properties,Advanced,Start up and Recovery,Click settings,Uncheck both time to display list of Operating system and time to display recovery options when needed.

Hope this helps,

Thank You

Roshan, thank you for taking the time to help.

Unfortunately, the solution didn't achieve what I was looking for.

The problem occurs following power on - it is the second screen ie following the Dell logo screen.

To me, it looks like a DOS screen white writing on a black background.

The pc will wait forever for me to either press F2 for setup menu, F12 for boot menu or any key to continue.

Showing my age, I looked for an autoexec.bat file to edit but all that's in autoexec.bat is REM Dummy file for NTVDM.

NTVDM.exe is uneditable as far as I know.

But thank you anyway.

I have sort of solved the problem.

I noticed that the pc said it could not identify the battery (original to pc and works fine) - previously, I had ignored this message.

Anyway, I took the battery out and restarted.

Windows loaded without me pressing any keys at all.

I might try and clean up the battery terminals and connection etc and then rebooting but at least it works.
