Trouble restoring Dell inspiron 560
Hello all,
I have been trying to restore the factory image on my Dell Inspiron 560.
Whenever I go through the restore system options, with the factory image disk 1 in the drive, the system reboots and I get this message.
windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
File: \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe
Status: 0xc000000d
Info: the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.
I can F8 at startup and get the menu up ok. But when I select.... oh heck...... I beleive its " Repair your Computer " or something similar anyways to get to the
restore menus as per Dells instructions it just boots windows. I can't get to the appropriate screens.
I am at a loss of what to do.
As far as discs go I have two factory image disks, The Dell drivers and utilities, and a Windows 7 64-bit repair disk.
I am running windows 7 Home Premium.
Any input would be greatly appriciated.

Hi Blueeyedblue,
Welcome to Dell Community Forum.
Please note: PC Restore (Factory Image Restore) or a complete manual Operating System Re installation (OSRI) would lead to data loss. As data once lost might not be retrievable, Dell recommends customers to back up the data before PC Restore or OSRI.
In this case I suspect we need check the RAM (Memory cards) on the system as per the error code 0xc000000d, I would suggest to run diagnostics on the system before performing PC Restore.
You may run diagnostics following the below
support.dell.com/.../document
support.dell.com/.../document
You may run the complete Memory test for more accurate results, if all test passes then you may proceed with PC Restore like below.
As per your information, the system boots to windows once you select restore options from F8 repair your computer screen, please check if you have connected any external devices to the USB ports of the system, like a Printer, External Hard Drive or Flash Drive, if found any please unplug them for the time till PC Restore is done.
You may follow the below link for doing PC Restore
support.dell.com/.../document
In case if you still face the same issue, as you mentioned you have the Operating system DVD, you may use that and re install Operating system following below link
support.dell.com/.../document
Once the re installation is done, please activate your anti virus program and run windows updates (Start – Type Windows Updates), please set up the system and install drivers accordingly. You may download all the required drivers from support site. Below is the link.
www.dell.com/.../NeedProductSelection
Please enter the service tag of your system and select the appropriate operating system and download the drivers. You may check in device manager (Click on start --- Type Device Manager ---- Check for the list of hardware components showing with yellow marks and download them accordingly)

Hi SeaRod,
To isolate the issue please let me know few details. Please confirm if computer model which you are talking about is Inspiron 560
Do you have the Operating system disc that might have come with the computer, if yes; please follow the steps mentioned below:
If you do not have the disc for the computer, I request you to private message the system service tag number. To private message, accept my friend request; click on my user name and click start conversation.
Please post back with the results.

This forum is for Desktop General Hardware posts, as you have a laptop, best to post this the Laptop section,

Also, it will help to include the Laptop model in the post.

There is no "Dell factory Image" restore option on my Inspiron 560 in the "System Recover Options". There are following options in the "System Recover Options" - Startup Repair; System Restore; System Image Recovery; Windows Memory Diagnostic"; and Command Prompt. I have no OS disc :(
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
