Please explain what you intend to do. Do you plan to use the SSD as your system drive, or as a cache to your main hard drive?

To answer your question, you cannot use AHCI mode.

You need the Windows 7 reinstallation disc provided by Dell. The manual installation procedure is here.

I'm in the same boat.  I just purchased a XPS 8500 but I'd like to add this 64gb mSata disc:

Right now it only has a 1TB 7200 sata drive.  My dilemma is whether I should use it as cache or boot drive.  Is this possible?  

Does this mean I need to format the current boot drive, then install the mSata drive, then reinstall Win7 via the Dell provided disc?  

I'll be using this computer mainly for DSLR HD and 4K editing with RED Epic footage on Sony Vegas.  

I use my ssd http://www.amazon.es/dp/B005G2PHDC as cache. I didn´t fomat the driveor reinstall win7 because i applied a microsoft patch before change mode to raid. if you want i´ll send you instructions in 2 or 3 days. The system works fine with two 1TB hard drives in RAID 0 mode with ssd cache.

If you want your ssd as boot drive then you must format and reinstall.

Can you link to this "microsoft patch"?  I cant find anything that will let me switch to RAID to install a SRT without reinstalling the OS after switching to RAID...

Hi,

I've recently purchased a xps8500 and a msata ssd that I want to install as cache and use  Intel Smart Response.  I've fitted the ssd, but can't find any option within the Intel to accelerate the ssd.

I've looked at the bios and can't find any setting for raid.

Does anyone have any instructions for setting this up.
