V525W: Cannot Scan with Windows Fax and Scan Any Longer

I used to be able to scan documents and pictures with Windows Fax and Scan, up until late July. During my last scanning, the program stopped working (after several successful scans), but I figured that it would be fixed once I restarted the computer, so I didn't do anything, and forgot all about it.

I now receve an error message, "A problem prevented the document from being scanned."  I can scan for review, but every time I try to scan for real, it gives me the same message.

When I tried ABBYY Fine Reader, it gives me a different message"  "The scanner is not ready," even though the printer is on and connected to the network.

When I go to Dell Printer Home, it says "Install OCR," which should've been installed from the installation CD.  Dell Network TWAIN scan is the only way I can scan and save anything.  But since I need to crop my images before saving, this doesn't help much.

I have removed the printer and software and reinstalled everything using the CD a couple of times with no success.  The printer works just fine.  I have Windows 7, 64 bit, and I use my printer wireless.

I'd appreciate any help.

Akiko Y.

How did you install the printer?

How did you install Abbyy FineReader 6.0 Sprint? Is this the version you have?

What virus program and firewall are you using?

Hello Rick,

Thank you for responding to my post so quickly.

I reinstalled the printer first using the USB cable and the original installation CD.

I don't know how I got ABBYY FineReader...  I have never used it before.  It shows up as one of the choices when I press the start button on the printer for scan.  I have two versions: 9.0 Sprint and 6.0 Sprint Plus.

I use AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition, and Windows Firewall.

I hope this helps.

Thank you,

Akiko

Rick,

"ABBYY FineReader Sprint OCR" actually came with the installation CD.

Hello Rick,

Thank you for all the suggestions.  My printer has been printing fine, it's just the scanning part that has problems with my computer software.  I reinstalled the printer yet again last night with no luck.  I hope it will eventually fix by itself.  :emotion-1:

Thank you again for taking time to listen to me.

Akiko,

Does this printer use the Dell All-In-One Center, Dell Imaging Toolbox or Dell Printer Home?

What are you trying to scan to?

Wired or wireless?

What virus program are you using?
