replaced HDD and for some reason OS would reinstall properly from original disks

Question

My HDD failed. Have replaced with a replacement purchased directly from Dell. For some reason when i install a clean version of Vista Home premium from the disk that came with the laptop...It appears to install but when it finaaly boots from the hard drive it goes to a black screen and does not continue... Is this a known issue or am I missing something?

Are you using the Dell supplied Vista disc? I've got a link below to Natakuc's clean install guides. You might want to check that to see if there's anything you missed.

Also, please provide the model of your system.

I am using the dell supplied Vista Disk. Model Is Inspirion 1720... I will check guides you provided..

My suggestion would be to boot to your Dell drivers and utilities disc and verify that the new hard drive is good by running the Dell diagnostics.
