ND-1100A & SD-160T gone from Dimension 8250

Question

Both the NEC DVD+R and Samsung DVD-ROM are no longer recognized by Windows XPpro. They were working normally a week ago, burning both CDs and DVDs with no trouble. Roxio EZCD Platinum 5 seems to work OK on my equipment. Both drives show up in Device Manager with error messages 'cannot load drivers because registry is invalid or missing(Code 19)'. Diagnostic test from Dell DOS disks say everything is OK. A week of email requests to Dell have produced no positive result. Uninstall and new hardware process gives same condition. NVRAM purge ditto. Latest chipset update no effect. Latest BIOS for 8250 no effect. Likewise two hours on the phone to Bangalore did not help, and actually forced me to do a system restore. Unfortunately no earlier system restore points exist. I was given a different phone for advanced office support (hopefully a USA tech) but they are closed for holiday. Does anyone have any recommendations on what registry entries to either replace of delete?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'formatting'. My hard drive was OK, along with Windows and all my other hardware & software. Only the DVD drives were missing. I did have to reinstall Roxio to get it to recognize that there was a CD/DVD burner. Maybe with more info on your system Predator can help you?

try to follow this link. you dont have to format the system just to fix this. Just be sure to follow the instruction properly so that windows will not crash. Good Luck
