Firewall

Hi.  I have windows 7 but have upgraded to windows 8 because at the time I bought my PC windows 8 was not out yet.  Now I have windows 8 installed.  I hear that Windows Defender automatically comes with Windows 8.  I also have ESET NOD32 which I bought and have been using this because it is such a good virus.  How is the Windows Defender and how does it work?  Is it a great antivirus and does it protect you from everything like the ESET NOD32?  I have to decide which one I want to keep because I think having them both installed is conflicting because my tiles on my windows 8 desktop don't open when I click on them after a while.  I have to uninstall them and reinstall them all the time so I thought maybe it's because I have both antivirus on my computer?  Do you think that's what it is?  What do you think I should do?  Any suggestions would be very helpful, thank you.

So you think my ESET NOD32 is incompatible with the windows 8? I paid for this and it worked so well with windows 7.  So which one do you recommend Windows Defender or AVG or Avast?  I will uninstall my ESET NOD32 then.  Please let me know which one you recommend and that works the best.  Thank you.

Yes, the non-response of the Metro Tiles is due to the two AV running at the same time. Generally, this is not good; you only need one.

Defender isn't too bad, but AVG and Avast, both free, are better. . Depending on who rates them, one or the other is rated the best. I believe many AV programs will automatically disable Defender when they install. To make sure, type in Defender on the Start Screen and make sure it's off. I don't know how NOD32 rates. I have seen mention of incompatibility with Win 8.

Don't know if it's incompatible. See if Defender is OFF and then see how the NOD32 works. If Defender id OFF and you still have problems with Metreo Tiles, then replace NOD32 with AVG.

What I did was uninstalled my ESET NOD32 antivirus and am now just using the Windows Defender and made sure it was turned on.  I had to pay for the ESET so if I can use something else that is free and works just as good then that's what I'll do.  Now that ESET is uninstalled, I now am using only one antivirus so will see how that works with the tiles.  I'll let you know.
