Utility to change a service tag listed in the BIOS?

We recently replaced a system board in a Dell Latitude E6410. However, the person who typed in the serial number originally made a typo and now the machine reports in our tracking systems with the wrong info. Is there a utility we can can download to change the service tag info in the BIOS? I would hate to replace the system board all over again for something that could take 5 minutes instead of 1 hour.

actually, yes there is.

you are looking for a file called dellbiosreset.iso

you can also google DSTCD (dell service tech cd), does the same thing.

Please do not lie to me. Dell technicians carry this utility (on a disk) and I have seen them use it many times. My questions is how can this be resolved. It seems silly that your company would pay to ship me a system board and pay to ship it back when they could just send me the utility and we can fix this in 5 minutes. HP gladly distributes this utility to their cusotmers, I am unsure why Dell would not do that same.

Hi urbanexplorer,

If a wrong service tag is set, there's no way to reset it. The system board would have to be replaced again. You may provide the service tag of the computer and the name as it appears on the account via private message (click my username and then click Start Conversation) so that I can check the further course of action.

Keep me posted with the information. I will be glad to assist you.

I have tried the Dell asset.com utility but it appears it is too old and does not work on the newer Dell laptop models.

Hi urbanexplorer,

I agree with you regarding the utility. However that utility can be used only on a blank system board to enter the ‘Service tag’ once. Unfortunately, once the Service tag is entered, there is no way we can reset it. The utility can be used to reset the Asset tag and not the Service tag.

Here is the link for the utility: http://dell.to/17ApQA3.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted with the findings.

This is not correct. There is a utility that does it. I have done it 50 times.

This utility is supposed to work, but I cannot confirm as have never tried it.

cuttywilbur, if you have this utility can you post an ISO of it somewhere online? I would very much appreciate it if you could!

Paul,

Any idea if this is an older service tag utility (BIOS A60).  I know you haven't tried it as of yet I'm just curious.  urbanexplorer is correct about the older service tag utilities, I'm not sure why the Dell rep would lie about that utility, you can use it on any of the older models regardless if there was a blank tag or not.  The utility I was using would not work on any of the E-series machines most notably the E6400 when it first came out, it worked on all D-series machines.  In any event I will try the utility tomorrow, thanks for posting Paul.

Hi Urbanexplorer, recently I updated my laptop BIOS and after which the Service Tag was missing from laptop. Hence I used the following link to get the ISO and it works.

Kindly try the same.

WRONG again. you can use it as many times as you want.

this utility is actually REALLY good at removing bios passwords. comes in handy on refurb systems you get off ebay n whatnot with a password on em.
