Optiplex 3010 won't boot if monitor is not connected

Hi.

I'm usig this machine just to share SQL Databases over my network, but from time to time the OS needs to restart due to software updates. The problem is that everytime the optiplex restarts, it wont boot unless I plug a monitor in VGA port.

I dont need a monitor, this is a stand alone machine, and I use Logmein or Terminal Service to access it.

Is there a way to solve this problem?

PS: Core i5 - 4Gb RAM - Windows 8 Pro 64bits

Hi.

I bought this computer a week ago...

The machine is a OPTIPLEX 3010 SF with WIN8 PROF, Core i5-3470. The VGA Card is a onboard INTEL INTEGRATED GRAPHICS.

Thanks

Some computers will boot without a monitor, some won't. Some also want a keyboard/mouse attached in order to boot.. There are a lot of sugestions on the web. Search and see if one will help. It all depends on what the BIOS (UEFI) wants to see before it continues.

Did you ever find a fix for this? I have this exact same problem on both the Optiplex 3010 and Optiplex 9010.

If I power it down and disconnect the monitor and then boot it back up, it doesnt boot. If I attach a monitor to it after it is sitting at a black screen.

If I boot with a monitor and then detach the monitor it works fine, but if you try to reboot it without the monitor attached, same problem, it wont boot.

I'm having the same issue with four Optiplex 7010 s. These have an add in DVI ATI video card, but even with the add in card removed, the same issue occurs. No beeps, no nothing. They have Win 8 64 bit installed. I tried updating the BIOS to A16 but that made no difference.

In the end I found some old Avocent KVM dongles that were no longer being used and connected them to the back of the Optiplex's. That serves as a dummy plug for the computer to make it think it has a monitor attached.

I didnt try it, but I think this may work as well:

I think it is silly that there is no option to disable this monitor check in the bios. Maybe you can disable it, but if you can, it is not very intuitive on how you do it.

The problem is the added video card is set to default what you need to do is go into the bios and change the video adapter settings to recognize the onboard video. Then you can use either one. You would only have to do this if you have an additional video card.
