I have windows vista and the 1720 inspiron. If I put music cd in the slot that will play fine. What is different is if
I put in an install disk which always would auto start the install. Now I see all the files on the disk and need to
manually start the install. I did look and auto install is checked for all. Thanks

Hi Judyann46,
It seems your drive is working if you can see the files on the disc, but autoplay is not responding. Actually, Vista is known for autoplay problems. Let me recommend this article: Troubleshoot Vista Autoplay Problems
Let me know if that page was helpful.

Thank you and I did save you help but am not sure it will work.
I really do say Thanks for the advice, since I still have the Dell hardware warranty for this computer.
