Dell Latitude E6520 - Pre-Windows login issue.

Hello,

I have a severe problem with my Latitude E6520 (model with fingerprint sensor (non-FIPS) and contacted/contacless smartcard). Though I have never set a pre-windows password my computer now asks me to enter a pre-windows password or to use my smartcard to boot windows. Luckily it accepts my smartcard, so I am able to boot my computer with my contactless smartcard at the moment. As my smartcard is dying (seems that the RFID chip has a loose connection) I won't be able to boot my computer in the near future as I lack the pre-windows password. I am not able to register a new smartcard to circumvent this problem as Dell Protection | Access of course asks me for the pre-windows password when I try to register a new one.

All my attempts to deactivate the pre-windows password protection failed (I tried to achieve this via Dell Protection | Access and via BIOS settings).

Therefore I ask here for help, I hope that someone is able to help me to fix this critical problem.

Greetings

Tom

Hi Tom,

Please share the system's Service Tag and Owner's/Company's Name with me via private message (click my username and then click Start Conversation) for me to verify the ownership and share the further course of action.

Please reply with the information.

Hi Tom,

Please share if the password screen appears before the Dell Logo screen or after it. Please share the screenshot of the password screen so that I can verify if it is asking for a BIOS password or any other information.

Please reply with the information, I'll be happy to assist further.

Hi,

thank you for your quick reply. The password screen appears after the Dell logo screen. I uploaded a picture of the password screen: http://i39.tinypic.com/2ezhc3l.jpg.

Kind regards,

Tom

If there are concerns about the ownership of the computer: I ordered the computer directly from Dell (Dell GmbH Germany) and I am able to give you the data of the purchase order (via PM) to prove my ownership if required.
