WD1001FALS hard drive does not boot up in my dell dimension e520
i bought a WD1001FALS Western digital 1tb hard drive, only to find out it was a mac hard drive. I researched and formatted the system to NTFS with my old hard drive, but when i try to boot without the old one it doesnt load, it just stays in the boot screen. I installed windows xp on it. Please help

Return it. Sounds like it's defective.

Hi shotoga,
First, the model WD1001FALS is compatible with your desktop. It is not a Mac hard drive.
You must install the operating system in order to boot with the new drive. Please click the link below for a guide to reinstalling Windows on the new drive.

hello osprey,
there is an apple sign on the hard drive, and i did install windows XP on it, but it still didnt load, i ran a dell hard ware test and it failed the Smart Short self test. Should i keep trying to fix it or just return it?
