Dell Photo All-In-One 924 Printer won't work with other Laptops than Dell

Greetings,

How are you today?

I have an old all in one 924 printer which I purchased with Dell Laptop and Dell desktop. Both PCs had Windows XP installed on them.

Later both PCs lived their usefulness and I had to replace them with other Laptop makers.

I have tried to get 924 to work with Compack and Sony VAIO both running Windows 7, and a Asus running windows 8. All these 3 pcs have 64bits processors.

924 does not come with windows 7 drivers so only option is to install windows vista drivers. I have tried again and again to make printer drivers run but it did not work with any other pc but dell.

That's right I took printer with me to school where i tested printer one a Dell Desktop 32 bits PC and it worked like a charm.

So my question is can anybody confirm that they have get 924 to work on other pc makers than dell??? If so what did they do to make it happen??

Thanks

Have a great evening

Themevictory,

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed.
Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 8 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 8 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on).

Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...

Dell 924 Photo All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)

Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications. If you did not install any, then Windows Defender is the default. Try reading...

Allow Printer past Microsoft Essentials/Windows Defender

Themevictory,

Yes, the printer works on Non-Dell systems.

Operating system in English?

What virus program and firewall are you using?

Using the procedure above, we have found that installing the Vista 64-bit drivers in the Vista SP2 Compatibility mode works for most systems.

Hi,

I am sorry but that did not work. Beside this I did not get an answer on whether or not dell printer works with none-Dell computer????

Thanks

Hi Rick,

Thanks for such a quick answer. I have a Polish friend who I have given this printer to after failing to get it work on my 2 PCs.

She is Polish and her Operating system is also in Polish.

Latest I tried to get it to work this evening (2 to 3 hours ago).

I have tried Vista compatibility but not Vista SP2 (maybe I should try it).

I have sadly little knowledge to her firewall and antivirus, but on my 2 laptops malwarebyte's and Windows firewall are running while OS is English.

Thanks for pointing out that it works on none dell systems.

I appreciate all of your help, maybe one thing left to try is to test it to install on Vista SP2 in spite of just Vista???

Thanks

Have a great day

Themevictory,

Polish, try this and see if it works.

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs from the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 64-bit drivers. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You may or may not get a message to connect the printer.

Hit the Windows key and the R keys at the same time. Type...

C:\Program Files\Dell 924\Drivers

You should see an English folder there. Right click, new, create folder. Name the new folder Polish. Copy all the files in the English folder and paste them to the Polish folder.

Double click on the Vista 64-bit drivers and install again. There should be a message, then printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on.

Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...

Dell 924 Photo All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)

The printer will work in English instead of Polish

You can also try THESE DRIVERS in the Vista SP2 Compatibility mode

HI Rick,

Thanks for all your help, but sadly this printer did not work on all 3 none dell PC's.

Problem appears when I connect USB cable between printer and PC (Polish OS), it never highlights next, and to this point have all none Dell PCs has been failed.

Last night I invested, no invest is not right word, I must say wasted. Yes.

Last night I wasted 3 hours inn trying to get this printer to work. I installed newest version of JAVA, and Net frame, also deactivated firewall, but it wont work beyond this point I have earlier mentioned. All 3 PCs are 64bits OS.

Only time this printer worked was at my school where my data teacher connected and successfully installed it on a Dell PC with 32 bits.

I must ask one last time what can be reason for this trouble?

If there is nothing that can be done maybe I must simply throw away this printer to garbage??

Please advice

Sincere

Themevictory,

Printer needs to function, similar to a copying machine. If one or both of the Dell Series 5 cartridges are too low in ink or one or both have a bad sensor, the printer will not install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Have seem a corrupt Windows not install a printer.

Stuck print job(s) in the queue, you can uninstall a printer, then reinstall it and if the stuck print job(s) were not removed, the problem with the printer not printing comes back. That is the reason to run Delete Print Jobs the restart the computer. The make sure the printer is not usb cable connected, to uninstall or the printer tries to reinstall itself.

If the operating system was recently installed/reinstalled, on a Dell computer, if the Dell System Software(if applicable) and the chipset drivers are not installed first, the rest of the drivers will fail to install.

The big issue is your Dell Printer was made for Dell by Lexmark. If you find a similar printer on Lexmark's website, the drivers may of may not work. Lexmark got out of the printer business, so drivers for the older printers are no longer available.

Virus programs and firewalls are very good at blocking printers from communicating, even when you think the virus program and firewall are off, they still block. Without knowing the virus program/firewall, I cannot give instructions on have to get to the firewall settings.

Themevictory,

If it installed at school, then it's an issue with the computer.

What virus program and firewall are you using?

Can you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and REGISTERED OWNER and post the information back here.

Hi Rick,

How are you?

You are right! Only I am unable to understand it right.

You said "If one or both of the Dell Series 5 cartridges are too low in ink or one or both have a bad sensor, the printer will not install".

This is the case in my case. But if that is the case why did it installed on Dell 32 bits Desktop on my school???

Please clarify.

Thank you very much for answering so quickly to my request.

Have a pleasant evening.

Hi Rick,

Thank you for answering so quick.

If it is an issue with PC and not with printer then it should have worked with other 2 PCs and had not not worked on all 3 PCs at home.

On these 3 PCs at home there is no antivirus program, only malwarebyte.

And Windows standard firewall.

Thanks

Themevictory,

Sorry for the delay, work.

Stuck print job(s) in the queue can cause problems. I have a small list of known issues.

Virus programs and firewalls, there a few known issues. How it was setup, If the printer is on a host computer, there can also be different issues, from operating system to operating system. Length of the usb cable to the printer, some models have issues with the usb ports.

If the printer is shared on a host computer...

I will need more details on the printers connected to the Brand computer running operating system 32-bit or 64-bit? Virus program and firewall on that system. Will need the brand computer and operating system for the problem system.

Is there a Themevictory account with identical password of each system?
