Cursor jumping all over screen & no touchpad driver installed on Dell Inspiron N4110
I have a Dell Inspiron N4110 & Win 7 64 bit & my hard drive failed after a year. I brought it in to be serviced at the place I bought it & they did a clean install of Windows but the cursor has been jumping all over the place & I'm constantly going back & retyping everything! I'm dm doing that as I type this. This was not a problem on my laptop before Windows was re-installed & it's incredibly annoying because other than that, my laptop is faster than it was before. I researched the web & found some forums that indicated I needed to download the Synaptics driver - which isn't in Device Manager anymore. In fact, there is no touchpad driver at all on my laptop & I recall there was def a synaptics driver before the hard drive failed. I checked the Dell driver website for the make & model of my laptop & sure enough, it recommends installing the latest Synaptics Touchpad driver 15.3.2.1 which I was able to download but unable to install for some reason. I tried a few times over a few days but no joy. PLEASE HELP!!! I'm a writer & the cursor is all over the place!

un install the ps/2 mouse driver 1st and then load the touchpad ALPs. it should be installed to c/program files/

Select Download file and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
Restart the computer and check the functionality of the touchpad.

I figured out a solution to this vexing problem. In C:\Dell\Drivers\R304889, I right-clicked on the Synaptics Setup file that I was unable to install & clicked on 'Troubleshoot Compatibility'. I clicked on "Recommended Settings' & the setting for Windows Compatibility Mode: Windows XP (Service Pack 2) were applied & then I clicked the 'Start the Program' button. A Welcome box opens - the same one that opened when I unsuccessfully tried to install the driver- & then I accepted the license agreement & the driver successfully installed. I clicked "Next' on the Program Compatibility box that was still open & eventually my laptop restarted. In Control Panel, I finally was able to see the Dell Touchpad tab which I clicked on to open the Touchpad Settings box. I clicked on "Scrolling & Zoom' setting & unchecked everything on that tab & in the two-finger gestures & multi-finger gestures tabs & hit 'Apply'. I selected 'Devce Select' & unchecked the 'Disable Touchpad /pointing stick when external USB mouse is present' box & 'Apply'. Lastly, I selected the 'Touchpad Setting' option & moved the 'Touchpad Sensitivity' slider to the second to last arrow from right- next to Heavy Touch. & hit 'Apply' I'm not certain exactly which one of those did it but no more jumpy cursor & external mouse working fine as is touchpad - it's just not as sensitive.
Hope this helps anyone else losing mind with jumpy cursors.

Thank you for for reply. I uninstalled the other driver but I am still unable to install the Synaptics driver.

Thank you for your reply. I had previously checked the Dell driver website - your link- & downloaded the latest Synaptics Touchpad driver 15.3.2.1 which I was able to download but unable to install for some reason.
