Hi Greg,

I believe all you need to do is update the Intel RST.

Osprey,  Thank you for the reply.  I thought the same, but I am a bit confused.  I don't think my computer is running the Intel RST, but instead the Jmicron storage controller.  I looked for an updated driver to the Intel Chipset, but Intel says there isn't one.

I also looked for an update to the Jmicron storage controller, but didn't find one of those either.  Thank you for an clarification you can give me.  Greg

This is odd, because my old Dimension 3100 has no trouble recognizing 4tb drives with its onboard SATA. (OS is Windows 8.1 32-bit.)

Have you tried installing the driver mentioned in that thread? Another possible remedy is a third-party SATA card; as I noted there, I installed one of those in an ancient 2350 and a 3tb drive was properly recognized. If you have a spare PCIe slot, I'd suggest one of the new SATA 3.0 cards, which can be had for as little as $20.

Greg,

It's an application, not a driver. Google Intel RST and install the desktop application.

Osprey4 and rdunnill,  Thank you for your help.  I've updated/installed Intel RST with the 11.7.0.1013 driver mentioned at the beginning of the last post of the thread I referenced in my initial post.  The system now recognizes the full 4TB of the drive.  I've not done the second update mentioned in that post (ie installing SetupRST.exe and than manually copying over the two files mentioned).

For now, I will run it this way and see how it goes.  Thanks again for you help.  Greg
