Inspiron 660 Desktop maximum memory
I picked up an Inspiron 660 from Best Buy as a black friday deal, model I660-6038BK. It comes with 12gb of ram, which Windows sees happily. I'm curious what it's maximum memory is. Oddly, everyone (Dell, Kingston, Crucial) says the 660 is limited to 8gb. I also see 660's on Amazon.com with 16gb of ram. I figure this is the actual maximum, but does anyone know where there's an official answer?

Well, I finally bought a Crucial pack of 2x8GB sticks (BLS2KIT8G3D1609DS1S00) and it looks like it's working just fine with 16gb.

Oh, the one for $500 with 24" monitor? Get Speccy from Piriform (CCleaner people) and it should tell you the chipset number and the model number of the motherboard... then you can search Intel's site or Google to find the maximum hopefully.

Yup, seemed like a good deal to take advantage of. The Dell memory selector tool doesn't recognize my service tag, and looking up the Inspiron 660 only produces 4GB options. The board only has two slots, with an 8GB and a 4GB provided, so clearly it'll take an 8GB. My guess right now is everything I660 related is scripted around the Intel Core i3 processors.
Speccy reports a Dell 084J0R motherboard with an Intel Ivy Bridge chipset (rev 9) and a Intel Core i5 3450 3.1ghz (3.5ghz turbo) LGA 1155 Socket processor. Intel indicates the 3450 processor supports up to 32GB, dual channel RAM up to DDR3-1600.
I guess I've got to wait until someone tries a 16GB DIMM or these sites get up to date.

That's Awesome! Same thing happened with my Lenovo H430, max ram is listed as 8GB but I bought 2 X 8GB anyway and it worked.
