Ethernet Port Properly Connected To Router, But No Internet.

Last night there was a power outage and my modem broke. Today I got a new modem and router which are functioning properly with other devices. However, when I plugged the ethernet cord from my router to computer, a Dell Dimension E310, the ethernet port wouldn't recognize the cord. I reinstalled the drivers and now the port recognizes the cord is plugged in. When I go to network connections, it shows the LAN connected, but when I try to go to a website on a browser, I get an error message that I'm not connected to the internet.  On Chrome, I get the error code: DNS Probe Finished No Internet.

Any suggestions? I unplugged everything, ran a diagnostic test, reinstalled the drivers, and still having problems. LAN status shows I'm connected but no internet.

Thanks.

MikeBR12,

Did you get the modem from your Internet Service Provider?

Did you setup the wireless router? Are you using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings

On the Dimension E310, Can you run an ipconfig /all log and post it back here.

Mike,

The 169.254 IP address tells me there is a communication problem with the router and the modem.

Power off your ISP modem/router and your wireless router(if any) for 30 seconds. Then power on the ISP modem/router. Wait 15 seconds, then power on the wireless router(if any)

Restart the computer and try to connect.

What happens?

Thanks Rick. The modem is from my ISP.

I set up the wireless router and it's working fine with my laptop, tablet, etc. I've tried to set up the router to as many recommended settings as possible. Unfortunately the Dimension E310 is from 2006 and doesn't have a wireless card, so I have to go from the router to the ethernet port.

Mike,

If you have another computer that connects to your network, can you run Network Interface and post that information back here.
