Panasonic UJDA360 Slim 24X Firmware update = Matshita UJDA360 Firmware update?

Question

Hi all. I just started trying to use CD-RW's in my computer using the DirectCD Format Utility. However, the formatting takes more than 60 minutes and then the CDRW is left unusable, the computer can't even read it and it sort of 'hard-locks' the drive: I cannot eject the CDRW from the drive unless I use a clip on the emergency eject hole (or whatever it is called). Reading through the forums I found that a largely used reccomendation is to update the Matshita UJDA360 Firmware. However, in the upgrades page, I can only find a firmware update for a Panasonic UJDA360 Slim 24X drive. (Mentioned on thread: http://delltalk.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=insp_cdrom&message.id=29941&highlight=matshita+ujda360+firmware#M29941) I would like to know if this firmware can be used with the Matshita drive or if it is only for a Panasonic drive and if using it might cause any trouble (in case it is only for the Panasonic drive). should be ok as panasonic & Matshita are the same company.

That is the correct firmware update but, the real problem is the directCD Format utility. Even with the firmware update I don't think you will see an improvement - I was never able to get DirectCD to work properly.

Right now I'm feeling a bit stupid - I didn't know Panasonic & Matshita were the same. But I guess one can learn something new every day!

You just saved me wasting more CD's trying to format one after the firmware update! Guess I'll just stick using some other software and see if I get better results. Shame on DirectCD for making lame software! (or shame on whomever should be guilty for making the DirectCD software look lame!)
