Latitude E7440 - memory card reader doesn't work after bios update
Hello all,
After updating the BIOS to version A16 or A17 doesn't work memory card reader :(
On the aforementioned version of the BIOS, when you want to turn on the computer with a memory card inside the system do not get up! Of course, without a memory card system will get up normally but when you again put the memory card the system still can't see it.
The last working version of BIOS is A15 where you can use a memory card reader.
My OS: Windows 10 Pro (x64)

Thank you Colin. After many months it is nice to hear an official response from a Dell representative.

Hi there,
It's already the end of March and A18 is nowhere to be found...
Is there any kind of ETA or a work-around for the meantime?
Because if I revert to A14 I'll have worse issues...
thanks!

This is ridiculous... soon... yeah.

Flash the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) for the system to the latest revision to add initial display detection stability.
Bla bla bla...

The A18 BIOS will be released soon on the support site.
In the meantime if you have a Dell Account Manager can you PM me their name and your Service Tag. I *MAY* be able to get you access to the BIOS before it is released on the support site

I am having the same problems. I spent days with my company's tech support before finding this thread. When is A18 being shipped.
It's inadmissible on the part of Dell to have such poor quality control on the release of a new BIOS. Please release A18 with a fix ASAP

So, I after day of fighting this bloody SD card reader i have stumbled on this thread, thanks guys!!
I was suspecting this is the BIOS issue, as I had the motherboard replaced by Dell technician on site and he did solve the problem.
I had the Dell update utility prompting me to update few drivers, including BIOS, after which I have lost the SD card reader, however I was not aware until I was on the road. (in the office I have a dock and desk top card reader). I assumed SD card driver as in the past Dell managed to bork the SD card driver as well, so I tried rolling back and etc, to no avil.
Restoring the BIOS to A15 gave me the SD card back
Now we have May of 2016 and no sight of the new BIOS ?
Dell really should get their act together, this is 1.5K pound machine! FGS.

After flashing A18 BIOS I have problem with hibernation. Sometime my e7440 cannot come out from hibernation and it makes "fresh" start of Windows. The same issue on Win 10 Pro & Win 8.1 Pro. In Windows event log I get message, that it is 0xC0000411 error. Fresh Windows installation, drivers from Dell site - problem still exist.
