Have you check to see whether your DVD drive is recognized in your systems BIOS? If it is not you may want to reset your BIOS to factory defaults and see if that causes the BIOS to recognize the drive. You may also consider going to our main support site, inputting your service tag, then after the site redirects you to the pages for your model click on Drivers & Downloads to see whether there is an updated BIOS you can download and install on your system.
You may also want to check out Osprey's guide to troubleshooting optical drives. Osprey is one of our more knowledgeable community members and put together some other steps you might find helpful.

The first suggestion I would have it to check out this link from Microsoft on what to do when your optical (CD / DVD) drive isn't recognized in Windows. Specifically check out Method 5, but don't ignore Method 3 or 4.
