New SSD on Insprion 7000, can't boot ISO from USB!!!
Dear All,
I have an Inspiron 7000, and I just installed a new solid state hard drive. I plugged in a USB with a Windows 8 OEM complete with autorun, but can't boot from the USB drive. When I turn on the laptop, there isn't any recognizable boot devices, and when I check the BIOS settings, I can't seem to find USB. Can anyone help me with this matter?
Thanks and Best Regards,
Richard

Make sure secure boot is turned off -- and if you're booting in UEFI mode, you must manually add the USB drive to the boot list in Setup.
That said, if you're using a copy of WIndows other than from Dell, be sure you have a product key on hand -- the key embedded on the system board will not activate a non-Dell OEM copy of Windows 8.

I wanted to boot into Clonezilla that I had on a USB stick.
I turned on UEFI and turned off Secure Boot.
When I booted up the USB stick, it showed up as an entry under UEFI Boot. I did not have add/modify anything.
