Right click function inoperable

Inspiron 14 5000 series - no function available at all when right clicking, either a single letter or whole paragraph, can't cut, paste, etc.  have rebooted twice and hasn't helped.  any suggestions appreciated as searching Dell have been frustrating and fruitless.  Thanks!
