Need help installing drivers

I have a Dell AIO 922 and am using Windows 7.  I downloaded the files from the drivers page but the files there don't seem to do anything useful:

R153719.exe creates a drivers folder which in turn contains a Fax folder that has a various files and a Setup file that does nothing.

R166239.zip has only a Clean-Up utility which removes older driver files (irrelevant since I have no Dell driver files, old or new).

If I connect the printer and try to search for driver files, my system finds nothing.

szwanger,

Try this procedure and see if the printer installs.

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Hit the Windows key and the x keys at the same time, programs and features, your printer, uninstall.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode you’ll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time (powered on).

Links to the drivers can be found at…

Dell 922 Photo All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)

Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications.

The driver installation prompts for a folder to install into -- does it matter which folder I choose?

szwanger,

Most of Dell's drivers unpack and go directly to

C:/dell/drivers/

Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode you’ll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time (powered on).

1 - I changed the Compatibility mode as the link described.  (I chose Vista, not Vista Service Pack 1 or Vista Service Pack 2.  Does that matter?)

2 - I ended up with folders labeled apps, common, drivers, install, pubs, tools, and a Setup application. I did not get a message about the printer not being connected.  I tried running Setup but it didn't do anything.  Is there something more I need to do?

Actually, the driver installation did end up working, just more slowly than I expected.  Thanks for the help!
