The system should have shipped with Cyberlink's Media Essentials software.  The drive itself could be one of a number of different models -- it should be listed in the device manager with the model number.  There are actually very few manufacturers of these drives left -- HL (LG) being the largest, Samsung, etc.

Thank you for your answer.

I did not get the Cyberlink Media Essentials Software. Should I contact Dell to get it. I have Win 7 Prof.

Hi Marv,

Software that came with your system can be downloaded from My Dell Downloads. You need to register to use that site.

As for your BD drive, the model number is listed in device manager. If you would locate that, I can check the drive's specs as to what sort of discs it can write to.

Hi Osprey,

My Disk Drive is a "HL-DT-ST DVDRWBD CH30N SCSI CdRom Device."  I looked it up in Administrative Tools. From research that I did before, I know it's an Hitachi LG Device.

I will go to the Dell Site, and ask for the download. I have the Service Tag info.

Thank you............Marv

Do note however that this drive is only capable of reading blue-ray discs -- it is NOT a blue ray writer.  It will write CD/DVD discs but is not capable of writing blue ray discs -- only reading them.

Thank you EJN,

I already bought Blu Ray DVD's to write too! So now I can't use the Disks.

Do you know if a double layer DVD, can I substitute a Blu Ray DVD disk to write too? Will I get 2x as much info, using my Blu Ray DVD? Or maybe I can't use them at all?

Hi Marv,

Blu ray is a completely different type of disc than DVD. So you can't write a DVD onto a blu ray disc. I hope you still have the option to return them to the store.

Osprey,

Well I bought it from Newegg. It was RiDATA 50 Pack, paid $16 with FS. Maybe I'll put in a Write BluRay DVD, or an external one in the future.

Thank you.........Marv
