My DVD ROM only plays DVDs

Question

On my Inspiron 8100 my internal DVD only plays DVD rom and not a regular CD rom, is there any help for this?

Hello ohtony23, Welcome to the  Dell Community Forum, Have you tried to boot to your Operating Systems Disk,or your resource cd? You'll want to test the drive outside of Windows. Thanks,

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe DVD's and CD's are read using different wavelength laser light.  The laser needs to refocus to change back and forth.  If it will not read CD-ROM's anymore it may have a problem refocusing and may be defective.
