Inspiron 8100 Laptop

Question

I turned on my computer, and the fans in the back continually run without shutting down, How can I correct this problem, and does it mean there's something wrong with my computer? Thank you to anyone that can help me with this problem.

Also, I hit something in my desktop which caused the left side of my screen to show folders. I try to click my folder options and cannot get it to do anything.  Any thoughts on this?

You have found the famous (infamous?!) BIOS bug.  It was corrected in the latest BIOS versions.  Update to the latest.
