Latest Intel Graphics drivers cause brightness flicker, older ones do not.

The latest Dell drivers for Intel 530 graphic card cause minor brightness flicker every 30 s or so (although not at a regular interval). This has been reported on the Intel forum.

I first uninstalled the Intel drivers, after which the flicker no longer occurred. I later found the post mentioned above, which highlighted that the problem only started happening since after driver version "20.19.15.4331". I reverted to this driver, and indeed, the flicker is gone.

Hopefully this allows you to pinpoint which changes have been made in between this version and "20.19.15.4390". I would like to benefit from the latest drivers. For example, currently (I do not know whether it is related) when I maximize Windows the animation is very choppy.

What model computer? You have posted in the laptop forum. Laptops almost never have graphic card updates and those rare updates must come from Dell Support. All laptop drivers must come from Dell not Intel. Laptop drivers are customized by the laptop manufacturer. Reinstall your original driver. If you need to download it, get it from Dell Drivers and Downloads.

Read the intel answer in your post's link. It says--

It is important to mention that we sell our Intel chipsets and processors to third party manufacturers and they design their own computers with their own features, settings, and capabilities. For that reason they design their own drivers, to meet the exact specifications on their computers.

Your computer is having problems with our generic Intel graphics drivers; the best you can do is installing the customized driver released by the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer).

Sorry I didn't include more details, as all were already listed in the post at Intel I linked to. Just like the user there I have an XPS 15, and tried both the generic Intel drivers and specific Dell drivers. There have been several updates for this graphics card by Dell.

It is the latest ' original' driver which caused the problem and led me to investigate. As mentioned, no drivers, or the specific earlier driver of Dell do not cause the flicker.

My current ' solution' is thus a rollback to earlier drivers and not updating until this issue has been addressed specifically.

I am willing to be contacted personally if specific debugging is needed. Hope this clarifies the issue.

In regards to: "currently (I do not know whether it is related) when I maximize Windows the animation is very choppy."

This problem also exists with the latest drivers, and apparently only occurs for windows (in Windows 10) which near the full resolution of Ultra HD. Possibly the Intel HD Graphics 530 is not powerful enough for the 4k display? :/ I already reported it on Microsoft Community in case this is a Windows issue, but will create a separate issue here as well to verify whether all models have this problem.

Based on a recommendation of Dell support on the phone, I just found out the flickering also occurs in the BIOS! This might thus be a hardware issue. I called since I had a bigger issue, my battery is no longer detected. Maybe the two are related, I will revisit this issue once my battery issue has been resolved.

The flickering in the BIOS, however, does feel less frequently than when under Windows and using the latest drivers. I reinstalled the latest drivers just to make sure, and the constant flickering is driving me insane again. The drivers definitely do contribute to a tremendous amount of more flickering.

Earlier today, however, when running the older drivers, I did notice even a flicker with these, it thus simply seems be (much) less regular with the older drivers.

My battery issue has not yet been fixed, but I downgraded to an earlier BIOS as noted in another post and even with the latest Intel Graphics HD drivers, this particular issue now seems to have been resolved (or at the very minimum, improved, in comparison, I notice no more brightness flickering).

I do notice a slight flickering of brightness at 0% as originally reported for this version of the BIOS, but in comparison with the previous issue this is almost a non-issue.

Funny though, how 'fixing' this apparently made everything else worse. Makes you wonder how these things are tested before rolled out. :/

Flickering issue on bios A10 has been reported by others as well as myself. Please roll back to the previous version and issue will be much much less....not fixed but a lot better.
