Processor

I have been given a  Inspiron N5040 a05. I am trying to find a replacement processor. The spec show a 2.53 Intel core I3 M380.  It has one contact point . All the replacements I can find have 2.  I am a complete numpty when it comes to hardware so any help would be magic

If you mean the heat slug, it doesn't matter - apply heatsink compound to both parts (they will both contact the heatsink assembly).

It's not clear what you mean by "one contact point" but these CPUs are compatible with the 5040:

Celeron P4600, Pentium P6200, Pentium P6300, i3-380M, i3-390M

All are PGA988 format.

Other CPUs from the first-generation Core lineup may work, but CPUs from the 2nd through 6th generation will not.  You'd have to try and see what works -- there are no guarantees.

Hi The contact point is between the processor and the fan assembly. The i3 380m I have found have two.

Apologies for being a numpty
