Dell XPS 13 9360 Touchpad Strange Behaviour
I have my XPS 13 9360 for about half a year now (since November last year), but now the touchpad is starting to act up. I'm experiencing the following issues:
- From time to time it suddenly thinks I'm scrolling, even with a single finger on the touchpad, this is "unlocked" by left clicking the touchpad, but that often only works for a few seconds to minutes.
- Tap clicking is not registered anymore, almost always paired with the above issue.
I'm running Linux (Fedora 25, kernel 4.9.11 at the time of writing) since the beginning since I need it for my work.
I've ran the diagnostic accessed through F12, which found no error. I'm fairly positive at this point that it is a hardware issue, since it often happens when the laptop is under heavy load (though also during regular use) and a tiny bit of mechanical pressure on the laptop casing above the center of the touchpad fixes it.
The reason I'm trying the forums is because when I try to enter a support ticket it wants me to execute the Dell Diagnostic program, which I cannot do since I'm on linux, but I also cannot continue before doing that or having diagnostic data.
As I said above, at this point it seems like a hardware issue to me, but I'm open to suggestions.
P.S. I'm from the Netherlands, but I couldn't find a Dutch forum so here I am.

Does the Diagnostic you start with the F12 key during boot, require Windows?
There have been some systems, not sure about yours, where the battery has expanded and may be applying pressure from below.

he diagnostic under F12 does not seem to require Windows, it starts and finishes without errors or problems found. It does not appear to produce/store usable diagnostics however to get me past the customer service.
Would I void the warranty if I'd open the laptop to check the battery?
P.S. sorry for the double, I thought the reply button would do something else.

I would suggest you to check if this link: http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN304721/erratic-cursor-movement-on-the-xps-9360-with-ubuntu-1604-installed?lang=EN helps you in fixing the issue. The steps are for Ubuntu operating system. However, you can try the steps as the base operating system is Linux.

It seems like that might have fixed it. I already added that line to the modprobe conf file, but did not do the initramfs equivalent in Fedora. Let's hope this has fixed the issue.

Unfortunately it has not solved the problem. I'm not sure what else to do.

Hi Justin, I'm facing exactly the same problem. Feels like a hardware issue (expanding battery?) as a small flex in the unit can instantly solve the problem and only happens when the laptop gets warm. Can you advise please?
