KEYBOARD BACKLITE - DELL INSPIRON 17R SE - 7720 - Service TAG 9JY7FT1

Hello !!!.

Please sorry but I don´t speak English very well. I live in Argentina but I bought my Dell Inspiron in USA.

Few days ago my keyboard backlite stopped working and I don´t know why.

I have tested with Fn + F6 and enabling the windows mobility center and nothing .... there is no way to turn it on again. I have not made any kind of software or hardware changes these days.

Operating system Windows 7 Ultimate SP 1 - Bios A17.

Someone will have some kind of information about it ???

Thanks a lot !!!!

Matias.

Hi matalcacer,

To enable backlit follow these steps. Press < Fn >< F6 > once to turn on the keyboard back light. Press < Fn >< F6 > second time to decrease the brightness of the keyboard back light and pressing < Fn >< F6 > for the third time turns off the keyboard back light.

Incase this does not help, please update quickset and touchpad drivers to see if that helps.

Touchpad driver : http://dell.to/1SkwP8e

Quickset Application : http://dell.to/1SkwP8e

Also please check if you can edit thread heading and remove the service tag as it is on public. Thank you!

Dear Tabassum:

Just to inform that this issue was solved.

The problem was generated by 7720A17 - A17 BIOS version.

I installed previous version of the BIOS software ( 7720A16 - A16 ) and my backlite keyboard starts working again.

Obviously the version A17 have a bug or issue and must be reviewed by DELL.

I hope that this threaded, help to others DELL users.

Thanks.

Matias.

Dear Tabassum:

Many thanks for your prompt reply.

As I said, I tried with Fn+F6 and this does not work.

According your recommendation, I upgraded the Touchpad driver and Quickset app. Touchpad driver was upgraded to version 8.1200.101.214 ,A02 and Quickset app was upgraded to Versión 11.1.47, A10

Please check the links that you sent becouse both redirects to the same application (Quickset app). Link to Touchpad Driver was not included. Latest driver for Touchpad was downloaded from DELL support under my Service Tag.

After upgrading the software, the backlit continues not working.

Thanks.

Matias.

I forgot to mention that three DELL quick access buttons located on top-right of the keyboard, does NOT work under BIOS version 7720A17 - A17. Under BIOS 7720A16 - A16, these buttons work perfectly !!!

My recommendation.... DO NOT UPGRADE BIOS TO VERSION 7720A17 - A17

Thanks.

Matias.
