you could just buy the 7K60 seperately & sell the hdd that comes with the laptop.

Strange thing is that DELL did offer the 7k60 60gb 7200rpm drive with the 5150 when you configured it online as an option several months ago.  They all of a sudden stopped offering it,  maybe  to make the 9100 and XPS more attractive to buyers.   Joe

dell is a very profit-driven company, and for unknown reasons (except to boost sales for higher end systems), they don't provide the 7200rpm drive for sale in the 5150. i myself have been given gazillions of reasons, including the 5150 cannot support the 7200rpm drive, but the forum regulars told me otherwise and yup dell is wrong. anyways, like bacillus said, you can get the 7k60 yourself, and use the drive from dell as an external storage system for extra storage (if you don't wish to sell it).

i5150 Service manual, it has all you'll need to know when replacing parts. Incidently, the Owners Manual that shipped with your system should also have instructions on changing the Hard drive...

Thanks all. Where can I find info on how to change a drive? I'm more than familiar with opening up a pc, but I've never opened up a notebook.

Sakor1,

Thanks! I didn't realize it was that easy.
