Phillips DVD+RW-D01 Not Working

Question

I have a dell dimension 8200 with a 'Phillips DVD+RW-D01'. When using the pre-installed Roxio CD creator 5 basic (5.3.5.1 update installed) to burn a DVD+R disk I recive the error: E80041899: Write error - buffer underrun occurred - [06/C5/00]E80041925: TrackWriter error - Command retry failed - [T7118] I have already installed the firmware upgrade. When I put in the dvd+R the 'my computer' screen recognizes the DVD+R drive as a cd drive, but when i take the disk out it becomes a DVD+RW drive again. Any help would be appreciated. It is my understanding that the D01 model cannot write to DVD+R, only +RW. No software or firmware can change that it is a hardware limitation of the burner.
