Hard Drive Noise when laptop moved- Gyro forces?
Just got a new laptop and when I move it, specifically, when I pick it up off the desk, I hear a slight grinding noise. The HD is spinning and acting like a gyroscope at that point, but should I be hearing anything different when the the laptop is moved? Obviously concerned about something dragging along the surface of my HD. Have not yet done a HD test to determine bad sectors...

It's more likely caused by a fan - not the hard drive.
With the slight clearances inside new systems, it doesn't take much flex to cause the fan to hit the casing or heatsink.

I removed the back cover and confirmed the noise is coming from the hard drive. Is it possible the grinding sound is a feature inside the drive as the gyro forces act?

No, but it's possible the drive senses the movement and is moving the heads away from the data on the drive as a result - it's called wear leveling, and just about all drives do this.
