U2518D, A00 M2T101, green color problem with DP

Hi again,

I found another bug in U2518D (besides the tearing problem). This time it is the problem with green color when monitor is connected through DP. It is actually very similar, or I may say exactly the same problem like with U2718Q. In the case of the U2518D, it is exactly the same. When using DP, every green about 215-255 looks like 255 (full green). And just like with U2718Q, with HDMI, there is absolutely no problem with green or any other color and image is perfectly fine. Just couple of images demonstrating the problem:

DisplayPort

HDMI

Monitor: U2518D Revision A00, Firmware M2T101
GPU: EVGA GTX960 4GB SSC
Operating System: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

I also tried to change version of DP but it didn't help.

And another point, as I stated in previous thread, I did have also the newer A01 of U2518D with Firmware M2T102 and as I don't have it anymore, I can't verify it for sure, but I think, that there was no problem with green color. Because I noticed different green color reproduction between A00 and A01. And it makes perfect sense, why boxes (3,4a,4b,7a,7b) on this pixel walk test
looks on my A00 green, but it should looks gray, and indeed, on the A01 it really looked gray, but the boxes 4a/4b was flickering a lot, but that is another story.

So the point is, that Dell obviously know about this problem with U2518D and actually fixed it either with revision A01 or Firmware M2T102. But, I cannot find the newer firmware for U2518D in the download options on support page. So I don't know if it is possible to upload M2T102 firmware on the A00, or how should I solve this problem?

Thank you

The new firmware version M2T103 solve this problem with green color, so this problem is solved.

I have emailed the Displays Team. They are off until Tuesday of next week. I also made edits to your post to clarify the details for them and make the links open in new tabs.

"I did have also the newer A01 of U2518D with Firmware M2T102"

According to the Displays Team, Dell has not released a M2T102 firmware for the U2518D?

Gilbert1, is your U2518D an A01? Do not get an exchange at this time. You should wait until we either release a M2T102 firmware to the U2518D driver page, or until they tell me that our service stock has been updated.

I can confirm the green colour issue on U2518D when using DP or MiniDP, symptoms exactly as OP describes.

Mine has firmware M2T101.

Thanks Chris,

Mine is A00.

I just posted to confirm the issue, will probably update the firmware once it becomes available.

- well, that is very interesting, then how do they explain this? :emotion-40:

And also, I am quite sure, that with that firmware (M2T102, REV01), there was no green issue, because as I said, the inverse patern on lagom looked grey just as it should be and as it looks on every monitor I tested except my U2518D REV00 with firmware M2T101 with DP connection (with HDMI it looks grey as it should).

Well, our team is in the USA. We can only speak to what we see in our service centers.

Did you happen to record the returned non-private manufacturer U2518D 20 digit serial number? If yes, post it and the serial number for the one you have now.

Is that yours? You said above, "I did have also the newer A01 of U2518D with Firmware M2T102 and as I don't have it anymore".

So is that a picture that you took of your U2518D A01 M2T102 when you had it?

And you returned it to Dell for exchange and received the U2518D A00 M2T101?

In what country did you purchase the original U2518D?

Was it purchased directly from Dell?

Yeah, it is a little confusing, so  just to clarify it:

1) First I bought my first U2518D, that is REV00 with M2T101 and that is the monitor I still have.

2) After I discovered the problem with tearing/stuttering, I ordered new one, that was the REV01 with M2T102, but it didn't solve the problem with tearing/stuttering, and it add another issue with flickering on the dark tones, which was clearly visible with the inverse test on lagom. And as that was clearly the problem of that specific unit, I returned it to the shop, so I don't have it anymore.

And yes, fortunately I took that photo before I returned it. :)

And here in Slovakia, there is the law, that if we buy something at internet shop, we have a right to return it in 14 days without giving a reason so I did it. And no, it was not purchased directly from Dell but in the local big internet shop.
