The Inspiron 8000 can use a larger hard drive than 40 GB.  I am using a 7K60 in mine right now.  That is IBM-Hitachi's 7200 RPM 60 GB hard drive.

As a note, I love this hard drive.

Just to let anyone reading this thread, I have successfully updated my Inspiron 8000`s original A04 BIOS to the most recent release of A23 without a hitch, using the "floppy" method as suggested by those that know better.

Now to order that 40GB Hitatchi Travelstar 7200RPM 8MB cache!

Zip Zoom Fly.com has it listed for $148 anybody know a better deal?
