Strange Function key Behavior
Hi, all!
I'm new to the Alienware owner's club (just got mine m14x two days ago), and I've noticed that the eject function on my m14x doesn't seem to want to work. strange thing is that its the only FN + F key combination that doesn't work.
For example, I can change the brightness of the screen or volume, but when I try to eject a CD/DVD - nothing. I would have to manually go into My computer and eject by right clicking on the drive itself..
was just wondering if someone can shed some light into my situation.

Is this a very uncommon issue, so much no one but two people are experience?

I am having the same problem - but it actually worked fine until yesterday when I updated some drivers. Will see if I can find a solution.

Wow, nice. It's hard to imagine how taking the battery out would do anything that's only software controlled. I personally fixed mine by restoring to factory image and reinstall each program afterwards while check if the function still works. Basically I took the long way lol

Called support and got mine fixed.
First they had me power off, unplug, and remove the battery. This requires removing 2 screws to remove the bottom cover, then two screws to remove the battery. Then you flip the computer back over, open the lid, and hold the power button down for 60 seconds to completely discharge any power. The point of this is to eliminate static electricity.
Put the unit back together, power on, and they had me go through the diagnostics.
THEN we reinstalled the Alienware OSD.
Personally I'd start with the last step before all the other stuff, but they were thorough and it fixed the problem. Plus I got to take stuff apart - lol.
